End of year summary...

Skills I’ve been learning and improving would be the flick where you can flick the hockey ball up past the opponent and recently taught the mid-air trap were you can put your hockey stick up but not to hit the ball or someone's face but to guide the ball down to the ground then continue the play. I have gotten really good at the flick but I’ve still got a long way to go before it is perfect. I need to learn how to keep the ball when moving around in a game because I know that I don’t interact much but I don’t want the ball to go to my head and I get a fat bruise.

Today I helped Jocelyn with the new skills and rules given for Renegade Hockey. I can explain things and give examples in ways she can understand. Our teamwork is really great and we help each other with mistakes we make in practise which is very good for us to get better at the game.

Someone who helped me learn and how I would have to give it up to the Kaiako of the lesson. She gets everyone's attention to talk to us about our reflections or what we will be doing for that period. Also we are peers so she only asks for one person to come learn something new for the game and let the other person independently work on their skills. Honestly it's a very smart way to work when it comes to groups of two because the person that goes and learns comes back to teach while the other student works on their skills.

Our team is starting to become better together. In these past lessons I've come to understand that when it comes to groups you gotta help each other then do it all by yourself. I'm not the type to try to fit in but if it was for the sake of trying to get excellence in this class I'll do my best. Besides that I positively think our team can make it far for the years to come.

Something I really enjoyed was the learning. I really enjoy school a whole lot, I came to realize that in the past 3-4 months. I also enjoy the way the teacher teaches us all and personally you make everything way easier to understand and be more engaged with.

HCG blog post.

Kia ora, Today I took the role of participating in cooking class. I would give myself a 10/10 for participation, effort and teamwork. Today I learned that we should plan all of our recipes the day before cooking simply to stay organized and because of that very reason today we didn't have most ingredients but a few for an amount of two recipes done. Our challenge was to find 3 cake recipes, 2 sponge recipes and 2 scone recipes. On top of that we had to find the method and equipment used for each recipe. I worked on my teamwork and communication in the process of cooking. I'm the type of person that prefers to work alone and still get the job done but this time it required  two or more people in a group. I tried picking easy recipes to follow because I wanted to go straight to cooking but if I did that it would count as not listening and I've surpassed that stage in life. The recipes that we picked were basic and simple recipes we could even make at home. The finish product in my opinion was really nice. All the flavours mixed in perfectly with the icing but I know I could have spiced up the way I presented it. Me and Khiara made sure to keep our station tidy in order too whoever wasn't doing anything between the two of us would go do the dishes and who was busy was to wipe down everything once they finished and dry the dishes. It was a pretty smart way in helping eachother out and a good way to make our teamwork a more dependable one. Next time I would like to be more organized hopefully and try spice up the way I present each dish. So now one of the recipes I would like to show you is the chocolate cake in a bowl with ingredients and the before and after results of the mixture.

Managing the environment.

Understand how resources can be managed, and how the mismanagement of resources affects students and social sustainability.

Give a brief response to one of the resources in the examples you gave previously, post to the blog about what you could do to.

1) Natural resources

Example Oil, coal, natural gas, metals, stone and sand used to support life and meet people's needs. Anything that isn’t man made.

2) Cultural resources

Current events.

 Newspaper Article

Summary of the text (4 sentences)

This text is about a large group of privileged people who attended a party during lockdown. breaking the law, endangering themselves, their surroundings and most definitely their families. There were alot of high paid people there under the influence doing the most embarrassing things. Caught on camera going viral for the whole world to see and for the whole world to know why we are in lockdown.

A key idea/message in the text

This article made me realize that over 50 people attended a party that soon later didn't realize it would affect New Zealand. The people that attended the party didn't realize how big their actions would affect New Zealand's situations dealing with covid. Personally I find it really frustrating that people think they can go off and disobey the law like this. If more than 50 people attended this event all 50-70 people come from households that hold 5 people each. When they go home that night with covid it spreads faster then we want it too. We are trying to reduce the amount of covid cases for the better of freedom but if you keep throwing parties for everyone to attend to invading each other's personal bubbles then you’re going to increase covid to the point were our personal bubble limit will go down to three people in a household, online shopping and many more at this rate. People love meeting new people, getting out more, enjoying life and all its specialties with it.  I think the actions of these people were selfish and childish. Them knowing the law not to increase the cases would be pretty silly if you ask me.

Something the text made me think about/realise/appreciate/rethink my understanding of etc…

This text helped me see that with our actions we keep doing to put New zealand into danger like this at this rate we won’t be able to get the freedom we once had. This article made me rethink a lot of things I've been taking advantage of for the past few years of my life. With the amount of time we have left before we go into isolation made me wanna cherish every person that's important to me every last bit because I don’t know how much time I would have to spend with them. But these people that attended that party would be regretting everything they’ve done. Mainly just being there. The time spent there they could have spent with their family in their bubble bonding and having a good time at home. I understand what they felt once they realized how big this would have become in a way. It’s Anger and regret you feel when you make a really big mistake that can affect your loved ones in a way you don’t want them to feel towards you. When I make a mistake there's going to be that feeling deep down were you really regret everything you did. But behind every mistake there's always a lesson behind it. As long as you

know what you did was bad, accept the consequences and learn from it; that's all part of learning.

Karate kid theme

Kia ora this is my themes and symbol post on the karate kid directed in 1984. So this post is showing you my theme i picked from karate kid which is peace. Mr Miyagi is a really peaceful person, he has no hate towards anyone, Doesn't hold grudges and keeps peace flowing through his mind like a endless waterfall. It's amazing how he didn't show the slightest interest in petty acts shown in the movie. Even if he was acting his part in the movie I would say he played his role really good. But this shows 5 keywords I've thought of that involves itself with peace and 10 photos of what each keyword looks like. Hope you enjoy:).

Theme - Peace

Knowing the difference

between what karate

symbolises.

Some things are worth not

fighting.

Remaining calm in situations

that don’t need a big reaction.

Being kind

Having peace with your peers.

Comfort

Future planning.

Kia ora, Today I will be describing what I've been learning in social studies. Our topic is future planning. Future planning is were we get given a variety of questions about what we want to be in 4 years time or What career pathway we wanna follow. And then the teacher gave us words that we needed to research the meaning too and examples of what it is. So I’ll be answering questions given in the blog.

  • What is your understanding of Career?
It's what you're starting to think about doing after you graduate college. You stay in the same type of work until you retire. Career can be one or many jobs you could have in life. Career includes education, training and work experience.

  • What is your understanding of enterprise?

The meaning I've resolved around the topic we are on future planning. Enterprise means to me that it's someone or a group of people that are starting to want and plan up a business.

  • What is your understanding of Entrepreneur?
Entrepreneurship is someone that starts a small business to make some money for them. So from scratch for example if someone was to go downtown to sell donuts at 2 dollars each that's them being an entrepreneur that's someone that has Entrepreneurship inside them. To me, an Entrepreneur is someone that just wants to make money so they find a way to get money if it's doing chores for other people to sell goods, clothes and drinks downtown.

  • How do these concepts relate to the topic?

If we wanted to learn how to make a small business for the future it would be enterprise and if you did make one but its not big yet it would be entrepreneurship. See they both relate to future planning because it's what we could use to get far in life.

  • How do you link this topic to outside factors?
Well I could get half of the things in the future as planned I’ve put down for my research project but I could also not get half of the things I put down. The difference between the topic and the outside factor is nothing is promised in life unless you work for it and man i'm only in year 10 i've got time to figure out my purpose in life.

  • How did this topic challenge your thinking?

Well first off I didn't know what enterprise meant until I actually searched it up. And I knew what

entrepreneur meant because of personal reasons. But overall this was actually useful for when

I want to decide on what I want to do in the future.

  • How does your research project become an action plan for change?
Because were planning what we wanna be or what we wanna do for the future. So we started planning and researching what we wanted to do. Of course we were given more questions like hobbies, House, retirement, rent, what car we wanted, bills and if we wanted kids. All those questions were useful but I still didn't know if this is gonna be what I'm doing in the future or not. Anything can change at any time we just don’t know when.

  • Conclude with your overall views on the topic?

My views of this topic are nothing but high. So i really enjoyed this topic, it opened my eyes to many possibilities and opportunities given to me. But I'm gonna play the long game so I'm just gonna enjoy life now while it's easy and not worry about all the responsibilities I gotta have in 4 years time.

Karate kid summary

The Karate Kid is a film about a boy that goes by the name Daniel Lurusso. Daniel and his mother go all the way to California to have a fresh start. Daniel’s new start in California he gets himself into a karate tournament with a very special sensei, Mr Miyagi. He had bullies that made him feel the need to learn karate which was why he signed up for the karate tournament. They made a deal if they left Daniel alone until the tournament. With all his training done he won the tournament, a trophy and the respect from others.

My favourite character is Mr Myagi because he comes from a very hard past. Lost family, Wife dead and child while he was in the army. But what I like most about this character is that even though he doesn't have a family to come back home to he still shows Daniel-san he matters. Cause like you know how people are all abusive, mean and aggressive because of their past. Well Mr Myagi doesn't show that to anyone that doesn’t deserve it.

An event which made me laugh was when Mr Miyagi took Daniel-san out on the boat and Daniel-san had to stand on the tips of the boat and control his balance. They started talking and then Daniel-san said something that made Mr Miyagi want to make him fall off the boat. Daniel-san fell into the water and that was very funny.

I would recommend this text to other teenagers because it shows you that moving might not be such a bad idea. Sticking up for someone that made you feel welcomed and getting a hiding shows you what  integrity is. But most of all it shows you that fighting isn't good for you and for them. I recommend this text to other teenagers because it could open your eyes to this world and make you realise more about life.

We have also been learning about different film terms and techniques.

My teacher showed us what each of these shots mean. She gave us different meanings to different shots and made us learn what they were. After she finished teaching she wanted us to find different photos of each shot to see if we understood what she meant. We weren't allowed to copy her photos, no,  she wanted us to find them ourselves. So we did and here are some photos of each camera shot I found.

What is Local goverment?

Do you know what local goverment is?. Well if you read this post then maybe you will have a fair idea of what it is. As you know I was working on what SNA is. But along with that I learn't about Local goverment and their responsibilities. Why we studied this is because it has a big impact to do with SNA. Here is a google slides of what I've recently found out about local goverment.

What is SNA?

Kia ora this blog is going to be about SNA. For the past three weeks we have been learning about what Sna is.  We have some questions that help us get a better understanding about what Sna is, Whos involved with it, How it impacts land owners and buyers. They may make it sound like its a good deed for the communities or it helps in some way but in my opinion I think that it makes people really poor and people waste their money and time on land they buy if its marked as SNA. Anyways  I hope you leave with some sort of idea or facts about SNA.

Question One: What is SNA?

SNA stands for SIGNIFICANT NATURAL AREA. Its something that you can't touch because there's a natural resources on that land.  So even though you own land that you brought, if the government says its a sna then you cant play on it touch it dig near it or build anything on it because the goverment said.

Question two: What are some specific rules to do with SNA?

  • You can't dig anything up near the natural area.
  • You can't build anything on or near a significant area.
  • If you find any gold on your land the ownership automatically goes to the goverment.

Question three: Interesting facts I found out about SNA.

  • 1991 Someone dug up a cemetery in paora because it had enough sand to ship over to mission bay.
  • If you want to build or deforest on your land you need to get permission and pay a sum of money to the SNA people.

So this is as far as I got with researching and discussing about in classes. To be very honest, I've had three teachers tell me about SNA and their success. First one My OG teacher ( Whaea Liv), She gives us a clear understanding about SNA and the one that gave us the questions. The second teacher that was in the army gave us a really great definition of what SNA is, Who created it, if it was bad or if it was good, Some of the perks to do with SNA and interesting things about the people that run SNA. Our third teacher ( Whaea Edith) she gave us a basic understanding on what people are doing nowadays with SNA.

Kia ora and that is all I've got to say.

The holocaust reflection.

We've been on this topic for awhile now what human rights are what is the holocaust?. We've done all different activity even learnt how to make my own podcast. We had to watch plenty of videos so we could get answers to questions. It was really difficult at times just trying to get all of it done in the time given. What was easy? I would say none of it when your starting something new its never easy only if you've done something similar to it. well thats what i think anyways. Whats something i learnt? is that without Cyrus the great there would still be wars in every country to this day.

The Outsiders by S.E Hinton.

The book, The Outsiders is about gangs, stealing and friendship. Johnny that have been treated terribly by his family and couldn't lean on anyone but the people that are in the gang. Darry, Soda and Ponyboy's parents died in a car crash and therefore have nobody but each other to rely on.

The idea of a person being deemed an outsider makes me feel relieved that I don't feel this way.

Reading what they were brought up around with violence from the people that are suppose to love them, not hit them made me feel sad. It shocked me that they couldn't even walk outside without a blade in their pocket because they might get jumped. I'm relieved that Johnny didn't tolerate his parents' behaviours anymore because he could depend and rely on their friends in their gang instead. I think parents should look after their kids and treat them with love and care.

Something which shocked me in the book was when Cherry and Marcia were actually nice to Greasers even though they were Socs, they didn't judge Johnny and Ponyboy only Dally but it was his fault that he was treating them with disrespect. I think if you want peoples' respect you must be kind and respectful to other people.

If the video doesn't play my bad I used online voice recorder and saved my voice recording and then converted it into a mp4 because it wouldn't upload as a sound but as a video. Dark side of chocolate.

  Cocoa beans.

For the past two weeks we have been learning in social studies how cocoa beans can relate to human rights. I found out that kids from Africa get forced to collect cocoa beans, there parents would rather them work instead of going to school and learn. They work 84 hours a week, 12 hours a day and get paid 10$ an hour. Witch is not minimum wage but what ever the kids get the parents take. It all comes back to human rights our main topic for this term. Here is my map about were cocoa beans come from originally, the places that have cocoa beans, the places that force kids to make chocolate, places that use cocoa beans for chocolate at the factory's and the places that sell chocolate. Hope you enjoy:).
