The book, The Outsiders is about gangs, stealing and friendship. Johnny that have been treated terribly by his family and couldn't lean on anyone but the people that are in the gang. Darry, Soda and Ponyboy's parents died in a car crash and therefore have nobody but each other to rely on.
The idea of a person being deemed an outsider makes me feel relieved that I don't feel this way.
Reading what they were brought up around with violence from the people that are suppose to love them, not hit them made me feel sad. It shocked me that they couldn't even walk outside without a blade in their pocket because they might get jumped. I'm relieved that Johnny didn't tolerate his parents' behaviours anymore because he could depend and rely on their friends in their gang instead. I think parents should look after their kids and treat them with love and care.
Something which shocked me in the book was when Cherry and Marcia were actually nice to Greasers even though they were Socs, they didn't judge Johnny and Ponyboy only Dally but it was his fault that he was treating them with disrespect. I think if you want peoples' respect you must be kind and respectful to other people.
Hi Capri, I look forward to hearing your opinion on the text over the coming month.
